We are now into our second week of our letter activities and it has never been this exciting! I have prepared for this week as much as I did last week, and I can't wait to see Lia enjoy all these!
Today's Book is The Butterfly by Patricia Polacco {not really something I like but wasn't able to find any other butterfly book at the library}. But my focus for reading to Lia was to expose her to words and vocabulary, so it's fine.
We started the session today singing "Five Little Butterflies" from one of Barney's episodes. Here it goes:
Five little butterflies resting at the door.
One flew away and then there were four.
Butterfly, butterfly, happy all day
Butterfly, butterfly, fly, fly away
Four little butterflies sitting in a tree.
One flew away and then there were three.
Butterfly, butterfly happy all day.
Butterfly, butterfly fly, fly away.
Three little butterflies looking at you.
One flew away and then there were two.
Butterfly, butterfly happy all day.
Butterfly, butterfly fly, fly away.
Two little butterflies sitting in the sun.
One flew away and then there was one.
Butterfly, butterfly happy all day.
Butterfly, butterfly fly, fly away.
One little butterfly left all alone.
He flew away and then there were none.
Butterfly, butterfly happy all day.
Butterfly, butterfly fly, fly away.
It's one of our favorite songs and Lia couldn't help but dance around the room, flying like a butterfly would! She asked to keep playing the song over and over again!
We then moved on to the next part of our activities, which are the worksheets from Confessions of a Homeschooler. I have a bunch of them, since I originally planned to do butterfly all week.
Butterfly coloring page: I wonder why Lia chooses the black marker most times!
Do-a-dot Worksheets using Do-a-Dot Markers
Pairing two-piece Butterfly puzzles
Butterfly magnet worksheet - this little girl is still finding out why some magnets do not stay on top of each other!
Today's arts and crafts activity was to make a butterfly with the materials we have: construction paper, popsicle sticks, plastic gems, pipe cleaners, glitter glue and pompoms. I cut out the butterfly and Lia designed it with anything she likes!
Then we glued the pompoms together...
and our finished product!
Then the last part of our activity was to 'catch' these butterflies using our little fine motor tool
It was also an opportunity for us to identify which butterfly has the uppercase B and the 'baby' b as Lia calls it!
That face that says, "It was super fun, Mama!"
As of this writing, we are now in our fourth week of Tot School.
