Fall Week Activities

Summer was so good to us this year- just a little dose of heat and that was it! Sad that it has officially ended, but ready to welcome the cold months and the exciting celebrations that are about to unfold... not to mention, the beautiful scenery that is fall! We took a break from doing letter of the week activities to welcome Fall, one of our favorite seasons! Here is a list of activities that we enjoyed at home:

FALL SENSORY BIN

The beautiful colors of fall...

I wasn't ready for this week's activities as we were busy out last weekend. But I quickly made a trip to the dollar store and checked what I could find for a Fall Sensory Bin. Here is a list of what I bought:

5 Bags of Pinto Beans at $1.50 each
Scarecrow for $1
Lighted Pumpkin Rings for $1 each
Fall Wreath/Leaves $3

The rest of the items in this sensory box was from Lia's play kitchen. I could use some real apples too but the bin would then be very full. I also added a little dried oatmeal into the bin to create a "dry look" for Fall.

When the bin was ready for play, I told Lia that I have a surprise for her and she got really, really excited!

Why don't we give Mr. Scarecrow a 'bean' bath?!

Lia was too careful at first not to mess up the whole bin. But over the past few months being exposed to a variety of sensory boxes, she has learned how to play with it and not make a lot of mess!

FALL WORKSHEETS

I have been looking for that small pumpkin we can paint, but they didn't have it at our nearest grocery store so I ended up printing out Fall worksheets from Jolanthe of Homeschool Creations {love her worksheets!}. We classified items in groups, like this picture below. I explained that apples were to be placed on the left, and the leaves on the right. Lia identified all the items correctly.

Shadow matching was a little bit challenging for her age. She was listening, but couldn't quite get the concept of it all. I just keep exposing all these things to her. She seem a little interested, but we are giving it another try next time!

FALL TREE Q-TIP PAINTING

Paint is like a magic word that sets up Lia's happy mood for the day! I drew a fall tree and cut it, and she was already insisting {in a nice way} for me to get the paint!
She LOVED dabbing paint all over the tree...

I had to set it up the other way around so she paints the branches and not the trunk!

She was so busy choosing between the three colors of fall... orange, yellow and red!

...and our finished product!
