Our set-up of the day
Books: More Bears by Kenn Nesbitt and The Bear who Shared by Catherine Rayner
We opened today's play school with a "Teddy Bear" rhyme and video from Mother Goose Club. Lia is such a huge fan of this group on YouTube, and has actually mastered some familiar lines from the song. She danced with her teddy, giggling and enjoying the moment. Everytime the video was done, she would immediately ask me to play it again- that's how she likes it! Here it goes:
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn around!
Teddy bear, Teddy Bear, touch the ground!
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, jump up high!
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch the sky.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, bend down low,
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, touch your toes.
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, turn off the light
Everybody say, "ssh!"
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, say goodnight.
Dancing with the video
Teddy bear, teddy bear say goodnight!
Loving on her teddy!
Today's designated arts and crafts activity was to paint a teddy on paper with a fork. How cool is that? We did this activity together {hand over hand}. The fork design was to portray the bear's facial features.
But how could I do it with a very persistent toddler who wants to do it by herself? I let her do it a few times, then I finished off.
When it was done, Lia glued in the bear's ears and eyes.
Then we tried our hand at teddy bear graphing. Lia was to put in the colored gummy bears at the right column. We got this amazing printable from lilyandoak.blogspot.com.
We did this activity together- I would ask Lia which gummy bear matches the drawing and sometimes she answers correctly. I showed her where to put the gummies...
and then she did this! How fun, she must have thought. I know she is trying so hard to keep herself from eating one. She was really suspicious that it was candy after all!
Jumping over to the next activity, we sorted colored bears, which Lia was already good at. We used Eureka 50 Counting Bears for this activity, as recommended by Erica from Confessions. The night before, Lia and Daddy have played with these, and Daddy would ask her: "which cup does the red bear go? Is it here (pointing to the green, blue and yellow) and Lia would say "No!" she would then direct Daddy's hand to the right cup!
Now this is a sign that she's done with the activity...Ha!
For the Gross Motor Activity, I made a "cave" and we acted as bears. It's supposedly winter and the bears go in hibernation mode!
I was the bad bear and was going to bite her. She was waiting for me to attack from the other side!
This was really fun...Lia absolutely loved going in and out the cave! Too bad I couldn't be at play and take pictures at the same time!
This pretty sums up our B is for Bear Day. A new realization came to mind: toddlers LOVE gross motor play more than doing worksheets at this stage, so I will definitely do some changes to our lessons in the coming days!
