I've been really ecstatic about doing this caterpillar activity. I've been putting this off for months, so now that I have finally found the courage to do it, I'm excited to see how Lia would react!
I made this caterpillar box, out of a gift box. Painted it using acrylic paint, similar to that caterpillar in the book. I put in his ears and slit the mouth open.
Then I printed caterpillar food from 1plus1plus1equals1 {she is wonderful}, glued them on cardstock and laminated them...and we're ready!
The moment we started, I was actually surprised that Lia was a little uncomfortable when she saw the caterpillar. But when I told her that we were going to feed the caterpillar, her mood quickly changed.
I started reading Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and Lia would find the picture of the food the caterpillar ate...
She would then stuff it inside the caterpillar's mouth!
She enjoyed it a lot that we did it over and over again!
She was busy sitting and standing up, picking up the food pictures and such, having so much fun that her giggles were contagious!
Then I showed her a plastic caterpillar that I have in my bin. She has played with it before, but this instance she got scared that she wouldn't even try to touch it.
All I wanted was for her to see what it looked like...but she ran away!
She was asking me to rescue her!
So I put the caterpillar away and moved on to the next activity, which was sorting out small, medium and large caterpillar sizes! I got this printable from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
Exposing her to this activity for now. She only wanted to mix them up altogether...that sounds better for her!
I gave her a magnet activity sheet she can work on too. As usual, she wanted to stack the magnets instead {I can always try again and again!}
That cheesy face! We ended up playing with play foam and forming letter Cc with it!
